Soda has been shown to have a negative impact on the teeth. If soda was eliminated and sugarless gum was used to chew between meals, there would be an improvement in oral health. There are strong acids in soda that can erode teeth. The full-sugar sodas provide sugar right to the bacteria in the mouth that cause cavities.
Sometimes the state of a person’s teeth and how many teeth are remaining, lead to the eventual need to extract them. Even though implants are more expensive than dentures or bridges, they are more permanent and prevent bone loss.
Dry mouth is a situation that can be a result of other problems, so make sure you get checked by a doctor. Chewing and swallowing are much more difficult with dry mouth. You are also more susceptible to cavities and gum disease. Sip lots of water, chew sugarless gum and avoid beverages containing caffeine to alleviate the symptoms of dry mouth.
Some medicines or other physical ailments can cause dry mouth. Diabetes, arthritis and cardiovascular disease do have an impact on oral health and oral care.
